Forceps

Doctors  use  forceps  &  hemostats  to  grasp  &  hold tissues  &  foreign bodies. These  instruments  give doctors  control over a distance.  Most of  forceps  locked  in proximal part.

Mosquito  forceps


Shape of  entire  tool  is  resembles  of  the  thin  proboscis  of mosquito  &  insect wings.  This  have  small tip &  short  distance  between  tip  &  hinge. This  gives  more power  over the   tip. Smaller  type  of  artery  forcep.







Tooth &  non tooth  forceps



Tooth  forceps  use to hold  tissues  ,  where  as  the smooth  forceps  are  for holding  &  tying sutures.  Some  forceps  designs  for both purposes  they  are  mainly use  in ophthalmic  surgaries.

Artery  Forceps



Also  called  hemostat.  Use  to  close  ruptured  blood  vessels. Help to hold an  objects , that  difficult  grasp  in  place. Tip  can  be  strait or  curved.









Sponge  forcep


Having fenestrate   in  distal end. Use  for  holding  swabs  or  sponges  in  medical  procedures. Also helps  to hold & move  tissues  very precisely  & gently.  In gynecology  use  in  insertion  IUCD s.  use  in removing  polips. Use  in bullectomies  in  lung  sugeries







Green  armytage  forceps

Use  in hold  peritoneum &  gynecological  procedures.









Moinihan  forceps











Allis  forceps



Toothed  forcep  with  broad  grasping  area











Morissan s  forceps



Heavier  toothed  forceps  used  to touch tissues  such  as  fascia  or  skin






Cheatle s  forceps


It  use  to pick  up  sterilized  articles like   instruments , it  does  not  have  lock.

Retractors

It  is  use to  spread out as  well  as separate  portions of  the  skin  &  tissues . it  is  help holding  back any  organs  which  may  be  coming  in  the  way  of  the  surgical  site  & it  also  helps  in spreading  the edges of  incision  apart. There are 3 types, 
        Superficial  retractors

Volkmann s  retractor

It  is  use  to  retract  fascias  in  soles  & palms






Morris  Retractor

Help  to  keeping  the  incision  open & to  keep  the  skin  & tissues away  from  the bones  &  organs.  looks  like  a morris  car .  use  in caesarean  deliveries. May  be  single  or  double  type.





Kelly s  retractor

Deep  retractor,  having  deep  blade. Use  to  hold  intra  abdominal  organs




Doyen s  retractor

Use  in  pelvic  surgeries
















Single  Hook  retractor

It  is  use to  retract  skin




Joll s  retractor

Self  retaining  retractor  ,  use  for  thyroid  sugeries
